Biography
Upon the UK release of his debut feature film "Small Time Obsession," both Variety and The Guardian hailed Piotr as "a director to watch."
Piotr's second feature, "The Last Witness," premiered theatrically in Poland on 156 screens, followed by theatrical and Digital & DVD releases in the UK, and Digital & DVD distribution in the US. The film has garnered 44 awards and was showcased at international film festivals including those in Los Angeles, New York, Chicago, Toronto, and Sydney.
Without formal training in film and television, Piotr began his career in 1989 as an intern in the News Department at MTV Europe. He later joined Sky TV as an intern in Sky Movies, where he secured a position as an interstitial producer/director. Piotr co-created the film magazine show "Xposure," which premiered in September 1992 and was renamed "The Movie Show" in January 1994. Initially hosted by Nadia De Lemeny and Rob Brydon, followed by Richard Jobson, Piotr directed the series from August 1993 to January 1995, including special reports from New York, Los Angeles, and the Cannes, Berlin, and Edinburgh Film Festivals.
In 1994, Piotr directed the short film "Let Sleeping Dogs Lie," which won the Best British Film Award at the Institute of Amateur Cinematographers in 1995. The film was also selected for the Barcelona Film Festival and aired on Sky TV in October 1997.
Piotr left Sky in January 1995 to pursue freelance directing and editing while writing and producing "Small Time Obsession." He subsequently worked exclusively in UK TV drama, directing many of the country's highest-rated shows, while continuing to develop feature films, culminating in co-writing and directing "The Last Witness."
Piotr's parents were born in Poland but were deported during the 1939 invasions by German and Soviet forces. His father and family were sent to Austria for forced labor by the Germans, while his mother and her family were deported to Siberia by the Soviets as enemies of the state. Piotr's grandfather was executed by the Soviet NKVD in the 1940 Katyn Massacre. After World War II, Piotr's parents settled in England, unable to return to Poland due to Soviet occupation and communist rule. They remained in England as political refugees, along with many fellow countrymen.
