Biography
Anke Engelke, born in Montreal, Canada, in 1965, grew up speaking three languages. She gained early experience in dubbing and hosted TV and radio shows as a child. Engelke was part of a weekly show ensemble, and her series Ladykracher is regarded as the most successful German sketch show, running for eight seasons.
Since 2000, Anke Engelke has appeared regularly in feature films, soon taking leading roles in Mein Sohn, Der Onkel and Mutter.
Currently, she stars in the Netflix series Das letzte Wort and appears in the first season of the popular comedy LOL - Last One Laughing on Amazon Prime Video.
As a voice actress, she voices several characters including Marge in The Simpsons, Dory in Finding Nemo and Finding Dory, Captain Ericka in Hotel Transylvania 3, and Silver in Angry Birds 2.
Since 2007, Anke Engelke has portrayed the character in Anke's World on the preschool TV series Die Sendung mit dem Elefanten.
Together with Kristian Thees, she features on the SWR3 podcast Wie war der Tag, Liebling. Every Tuesday and Thursday, SWR3 presenter Kristian Thees calls his close friend Anke Engelke, and they share their daily stories.
Anke Engelke tours with various reading programs, currently including KOMISCH - Iris Berben meets Anke Engelke and Letters of Note - Anke Engelke, Devid Striesow & Jörg Thadeusz.
Between 2003 and 2019, she hosted the Berlinale opening and Bear Awards Gala 13 times. In 2011, she co-hosted the German preliminary round of the Eurovision Song Contest (ESC) alongside Stefan Raab and Judith Rakers.
From 2012 to 2017, Anke Engelke served as a substitute professor teaching television dramaturgy and creative television production at the KHM in Cologne.
She is a member of the advisory board of the Pop Institute at the Folkwang University of the Arts, alongside Dirk von Lowtzow, Prof. Diedrich Diederichsen, and Prof. Dr. Christoph Jacke.
Since 2003, Anke Engelke has been an ambassador for the medical aid organization action medeor.
