Biography
Dary Reis was born on February 12, 1926, in Formigueiro, then a small village in São Sepé County, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. He was the third son of João Felipe dos Reis and Idalina Berger. Shortly after his birth, the family relocated to Santa Cruz do Sul, RS, where they lived until 1931 before moving to São Leopoldo, a town 15 miles north of the state capital, Porto Alegre. Dary lost his mother in 1939, shortly after the move, and his father in 1947.
Around 1945, he pursued a career as a stage actor. To achieve this and break into show business, he moved to Rio de Janeiro, where the main opportunities in the industry were emerging at the time. He initially landed a few roles but quickly rose to fame, performing with Dulcina de Moraes' theatrical group in numerous productions. Over his career, he appeared in twenty-two films and twenty-six soap operas, most of which aired on Globo TV.
His first marriage was to actress Sonia de Moraes, with whom he had a daughter, Leana (now deceased), who had a son named Dary Hugo dos Reis Neto. After their divorce, he married Leda Lucia Marques in 1962, and they had two children: Katia Christina and Dary Hugo dos Reis Junior. Katia has two children, Pedro Alberto and Ana Clara, while Junior has two sons, Lucas Santos dos Reis and João Felipe dos Reis, named after Dary's father. His final role at TV Globo was in the 2005 soap opera "Bang Bang," marking sixty years in theater, film, and television. Dary Reis passed away on December 26, 2010, following a brief coma caused by a cerebrovascular disease.
