Biography
Ivan Sen (born 1972 in Nambour, Queensland) is an Australian filmmaker known for his roles as director, screenwriter, cinematographer, editor, composer, and sound designer. He is also the co-founder and director of Bunya Productions.
In the late 1990s, Sen worked on various short films before making his feature debut with Beneath Clouds in 2002. The film gained international recognition, screening at the 2003 Sundance Film Festival and winning the Premiere First Movie Award at the 2002 Berlin Film Festival, as well as the Best Director Award at the 2002 Australian Film Institute Awards. He has since written and produced several acclaimed documentaries, including Yellow Fella, which was shown in the Un Certain Regard section at the 2005 Cannes Film Festival. In 2011, Sen completed his feature Toomelah, which was also selected for Un Certain Regard at the Cannes International Film Festival, where it received a standing ovation. The film won the Grand Prix at the 2011 Pacific Meridian Film Festival and the UNESCO Prize at the 2011 Asia Pacific Screen Awards.
In 2013, Sen directed the feature film Mystery Road, starring Aaron Pedersen, Hugo Weaving, Ryan Kwanten, Tasma Walton, and Jack Thompson. The film premiered internationally as a "Special Presentation" at the 2013 Toronto Film Festival. Sen also serves as an Executive Producer on the successful TV adaptation of Mystery Road. In 2015, he directed Goldstone, featuring Aaron Pedersen, Alex Russell, Jacki Weaver, David Gulpilil, Cheng Pei Pei, and David Wenham.
