Biography
Ingvar Thordarson, one of Europe's most prolific film producers, has produced over 50 features, TV series, and documentaries that have achieved significant commercial and critical acclaim, earning numerous awards worldwide, including the Discovery Award at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) and the Critics Award at the Cannes Film Festival.
His notable features include 101 Reykjavík, The Bothersome Man, Life in a Fishbowl—which won a record 12 awards at the Icelandic Edda Film Awards—and The Grump, Finland’s highest-grossing film of 2014. Other successes include the award-winning Tom of Finland and the box-office hit Unknown Soldier, which sold over one million tickets in Finland. His latest film, Odd Fish, has received nine Edda Film Award nominations.
In Iceland, Thordarson has played a key role in launching the careers of several prominent directors such as Oskar Jonasson, Baltasar Kormakur, Robert Douglas, Gunnar B. Gudmundsson, and Baldvin Z.
For decades, Thordarson has been an active contributor to the European cultural scene. He founded Iceland’s first and only outdoor drive-in cinema and has promoted groundbreaking artists including David Bowie, Sting, Richard O'Brien, Eddie Izzard, Prodigy, Pet Shop Boys, and Aki Kaurismäki. Additionally, he has supported renowned photographers like Gavin Evans, Leif Erik Nygårds, Ragnar Axelsson (RAX), and major figures in the art world such as René Block.
His latest endeavor, People of Science, is an innovative AI agent-driven production studio co-founded with industry veterans Róbert Bjarnason and Joshua Lanthier-Welch, marking his expansion into cutting-edge artificial intelligence technology in the creative industries.
