Biography

Bob was born in Hollywood and raised in the Baldwin Hills neighborhood in a home his father had constructed. Even as a child, he displayed a flair for performance, organizing shows for local children and charging a penny for admission. He attended Dorsey High School, where he actively participated in drama productions.

During World War II, Bob served as a weatherman with the 10th Weather Squadron, 14th Air Force (the "Flying Tigers") in Kunming, China. Later, he was reassigned to coordinate mail services for all units in the China-Burma-India theater. His first acting experience came in an Area Entertainment Guild production of "Room Service" for the troops.

After the war, Bob returned to Los Angeles and enrolled at the Pasadena Playhouse, then a theatre arts school, graduating in 1949. He became one of the founding members of the Orchard Gables Repertory Theatre Company located at the corner of Fountain and Wilcox in Hollywood.

Eager to run his own theatre, he bought property in 1955 and constructed a 90-seat theatre with "in-the-round" seating. In January 1956, Bob opened the Horseshoe Stage Theatre on Melrose Avenue in Hollywood, where he produced, directed, and starred in numerous plays over the years. This venue is now known as the Zephyr Theatre.

When not acting or teaching, Bob enjoyed traveling in his motorhome, always on the lookout for the ideal fishing spot.

After facing mobility issues for several years, Bob passed away peacefully on February 12, 2016, surrounded by his two sons and their families.
