Biography
Christian Ditter (born 1977) is an acclaimed director, producer, and screenwriter known for his work in film, television, and commercials. His notable projects include the films The Crocodiles (2009), Love, Rosie (2014), How to Be Single (2016), and the Netflix series Girlboss (2017).
Born on March 9, 1977, in Giessen, Hesse, Ditter graduated from Evangelisch Stiftisches Gymnasium Gütersloh in 1996. He studied Applied Cultural Studies at the University of Lüneburg from 1997 to 1998 before pursuing directing at the University of Television and Film Munich between 1998 and 2006.
During his studies, Ditter's short films Enchanted (2000) and Grounded (2003) received multiple awards at international film festivals. His feature film debut, French for Beginners, was released in 2006. He then directed episodes for the Adolf Grimme Prize and German Television Award-winning series Turkish for Beginners (2007) and the acclaimed Doctor's Diary (2008).
In 2008, Ditter adapted the popular German children's book The Crocodiles into a film that garnered over fifty audience and jury awards internationally. He directed the sequels The Crocodiles Strike Back (2009) and produced The Crocodiles: All for One (2010). He also wrote and directed Germany’s first major 3D adventure film, Vicky and the Treasure of the Gods, which premiered at number one at the German box office.
Ditter made his English-language directorial debut with Love, Rosie in 2014, starring Lily Collins and Sam Claflin. In 2016, he directed his U.S. debut, How to Be Single, featuring Dakota Johnson, Rebel Wilson, Leslie Mann, and Alison Brie. Collaborating with Kay Cannon and Charlize Theron's production company Denver and Delilah, he helped create the 2017 Netflix series Girlboss, inspired by the book #Girlboss by Nasty Gal founder Sophia Amoruso.
Currently, Ditter serves as the showrunner and director for the Netflix series Biohackers, scheduled for release in 2020.
