Biography

David Luther, born in Munich to Czech and Slovak parents, is a London-based Director of Photography (DOP) renowned for his extensive portfolio of successful and critically acclaimed television dramas and films. His work on the series DAS BOOT earned multiple German TV awards as well as the New York Gold. Additionally, he received two ASC nominations for Outstanding Achievement in Cinematography for DAS BOOT and THE WHITE QUEEN.

Trained under his father, the legendary Slovak cinematographer Igor Luther—who collaborated with filmmakers such as Volker Schlondorff and Andrzej Wajda on classics like THE TIN DRUM and DANTON in the 1970s and 80s—David pursued cinematography studies at the prestigious FAMU school in Prague, followed by three years at the National Film & Television School in Beaconsfield, graduating with first-class Honours.

After establishing himself in the commercial sector with projects for Sony, VW, and Dunhill, David transitioned into prime-time television drama.

Fluent in English, German, and Czech, David resides in West London with his wife and their two sons.

He has recently completed work on WHEEL OF TIME Season 3 for SONY / Amazon Prime, directed by Thomas Napper.
