Biography
Ian Fang is a Chinese actor based in Singapore, recognized as one of the 8 Dukes of Caldecott Hill. He gained attention for his role in the 2013 drama Don't Stop Believin', where he portrayed a student struggling after losing his grandmother. This debut performance earned him the Best Newcomer Award at the Star Awards. Ian also gained widespread popularity with a large fan base through his role in On the Fringe 2011, whose cast later filmed the movie Imperfect. He has received continuous recognition for his acting, being nominated for Best Supporting Male Actor for five consecutive years. Ian starred as the lead in the film Goodbye Mr Loser, earning critical acclaim. At 30, he founded a streetwear brand called First Attempt XIX. A versatile artist, Ian writes his own lyrics and raps, releasing two singles: "1st Attempt" in 2016 and "Still Me" in 2017. He has also hosted variety shows highlighting challenging professions worldwide. In 2018, Ian made his directorial debut and was nominated for Best Director for a short film at the 2019 Singapore Short Film Awards.
Born in Shanghai, China, Ian moved to Singapore in 2002. He attended Stamford Primary School, Bendemeer Secondary School, and graduated from Republic Polytechnic. His acting debut was in the 2011 police drama C.L.I.F., playing a wealthy youth who orchestrates a series of bombings.
In 2012, Ian appeared in the film Imperfect and starred in Show Hand alongside Christopher Lee, as well as in Don't Stop Believin'.
In 2013, he won Best Newcomer at the Star Awards and hosted his first travelogue, My Working Holiday, where he worked in various countries in exchange for food and lodging. This show earned him a nomination for Best Info-Ed Host at Star Awards 20.
In 2014, Ian played a lead role in Channel U’s Served H.O.T. and appeared in the basketball-themed film Meeting The Giant, directed by Tay Ping Hui.
In 2016, he was nominated for Best Supporting Actor at the Star Awards for his role as Chen Hao Wei in Tiger Mum, which won Best Drama that year. He also debuted as a rap artist, releasing the single "1st Attempt" featuring Sylvester Sim.
In 2017, Ian received another Best Supporting Actor nomination for his role as Lin Zi Jie in The Dream Job and released his second single, "Still Me," featuring Desmond Ng.
In 2018, he earned a Best Supporting Actor nomination at the Star Awards for his role as Shuai Ge in Till We Meet Again.
Ian has been ranked among the Top 10 Most Popular Male Artistes twice, in 2015 and 2017.
