Biography
In 1986, she began studying at the Faculty of Economics at the University of Ljubljana, continuing until she was accepted to study film direction in Prague. During her student years, she completed several short films and documentaries. After graduating, she returned to Slovenia and founded her own theater group, Burgerteater, in 1997. Together, the group created two plays: Piki and Romi (1997), Mrs. Margareta (1999), and over a hundred improvised performances.
In 1997, she directed her first feature film, V leru, which premiered in 1999 as part of the competition at Karlovy Vary in the Czech Republic. The film received 20 different awards and was later screened at over 60 other festivals.
In 2002, she produced her second film, Ruševine (Ruins), which won 13 awards in Slovenia. Its first international screening took place in Rotterdam in 2005.
She co-founded her own production company, STARAGARA, with Jani Cvitkovič, and they soon produced the film Odgrobadogroba (From Grave to Grave). In 2009, she directed her third feature film, Circus Fantasticus, a collaboration among Slovenia, Ireland, Finland, and Sweden, financed by the European film council EURIMAGES. The film was completed in 2010.
