Biography
Kim Chang Wan is a South Korean rock singer, composer, musician, actor, TV host, radio DJ, writer, and poet. Alongside his younger brothers Kim Chang Hoon and Kim Chang Ik, he began composing music in their mid-teens and formed the band "Mui" during their college years.
After graduating from Seoul National University in 1975, Kim and his brothers turned professional and renamed their band Sanulrim, meaning "Mountain Echo." Their psychedelic and hard rock sound, reminiscent of the Sex Pistols, introduced a fresh style to Korean audiences and revitalized the Korean music scene, which had been shaken by the arrests of several prominent musicians for marijuana possession in the 1970s.
In 2007, they celebrated their 30th anniversary with a concert and planned to release their 14th album. However, drummer Kim Chang Ik died in a traffic accident in Vancouver, Canada, on January 29, 2008, leading to the band's disbandment.
In the early 1990s, Kim worked as a music director and film score composer before beginning his acting career. He appeared in films such as Blades of Blood, Antique Bakery, Shinsukki Blues, Windstruck, and My Love Ssagajy, as well as in about 30 television dramas.
Demonstrating his versatility, Kim has performed in stage plays like A Nap (2010), hosted variety and radio programs, and authored several books, including collections of poetry.
