Biography
Yacine Taoufik is a French filmmaker and creative director whose work spans broadcast television, independent cinema, and the operational integration of generative AI in news production. He studied film at Universite Paris VIII - Vincennes-Saint-Denis, earning a master's degree in cinema studies (1994-1998). He began his career as a director at FC Media (1998-2001), producing institutional films, before developing his motion design practice at Barejo (2001-2005) and TF1 (2005-2007). From 2009, Taoufik held an extended position at Canal+, contributing motion design and visual identity to the network's flagship productions. Between 2012 and 2018, he served as daily motion designer for Bangumi, the production company behind Le Petit Journal (Canal+, presented by Yann Barthes), Quotidien (TMC), and Stupefiant! (France 2) - three of the most-watched French news and entertainment programs of that decade, with combined audiences regularly exceeding 1.5 million viewers. In 2022, he joined the TF1 Group - France's most-watched private broadcaster - as Senior Motion Graphic Designer and Creative Director. He defined the visual identity of TF1's daily 1 PM news broadcast (13H a vos cotes) and led the integration of generative AI tools - including Midjourney, Kling, and Seedance - into the production workflow of TF1's national newscasts. His methodology operates on a single principle: validate before generating, meaning before the image - establishing editorial and historical verification as a prerequisite for AI-assisted visual production in broadcast journalism. In 2026, Taoufik directed Effacees des memoires, elles ont pourtant ecrit l'Histoire, a 4-minute 40-second film broadcast on April 21, 2026 in TF1's 8 PM newscast. The film uses generative AI to reconstruct the visual likenesses of four women absent from French collective memory - Hubertine Auclert, Brunehaut, Louise Dupin, and Laure Moulin - from fragmentary historical sources, with all generated imagery reviewed and validated by historians before broadcast. As an independent filmmaker, Taoufik directed Analyse (2010), a 4-minute 41-second fiction short selected at the Festival Cas d'rage de Gagny (France), and produced and directed J'aime jouer (2017), a twenty-episode web documentary series on personal relationships to video games.
