Biography
Charles Gillibert (born 14 September 1977) is a French film producer.
He was born in Tassin-la-Demi-Lune to Michel Gillibert and Françoise Barquin. His siblings include actress Violaine Gillibert and Emmanuel Gillibert, who leads the Eggs publicity agency.
In 1995, Gillibert and Nathanaël Karmitz established the film production company NADA and the Kieslowski Award, producing around one hundred short films, art videos, and documentaries, many of which received awards at major international film festivals.
In 2002, NADA merged with the MK2 group, and Gillibert launched MK2 Music, a label focused on the intersection of music and moving images, exploring new creative formats and pioneering the first cinemix performances. MK2 Music also produced modern dance performance films featuring artists like William Forsythe, directed by Thierry de Mey (One Flat Thing Reproduced), Merce Cunningham, directed by Charles Atlas (Biped/Pondway), and Angelin Preljocaj, directed by Olivier Assayas (Sonntags Abschied).
Starting in 2006, Gillibert produced feature films for MK2 on an international level, overseeing more than fifteen feature films until 2013 with directors including Gus Van Sant, Abbas Kiarostami, Walter Salles, Xavier Dolan, Olivier Assayas, and Abdellatif Kechiche. From 2010 to 2013, he was a member of MK2's management board. In January 2013, he founded CG CINEMA, an internationally oriented film production company focused on director development.
In 2013, Gillibert helped establish the investment company Cinémaphore alongside Julie Gayet and François Pinault, before being invited by the Centre National de la Cinématographie to join the Commission for reflection on new French film financing models.
In 2014, CG CINEMA debuted its first production, Clouds of Sils Maria by Olivier Assayas, which was selected for the Cannes Film Festival. The company also produced Eden by Mia Hansen-Løve, selected at the Toronto International Film Festival, and co-produced Desierto by Jonás Cuarón with Alfonso Cuarón.
