Biography

Born in Jordan, raised in Columbus, Ohio, and residing in Los Angeles for the past 19 years, Sundance-winning writer/director Amin Matalqa creates films centered on dreamers and overlooked heroes. His debut feature, Captain Abu Raed, won the Sundance World Cinema Audience Award in 2008 and was Jordan's first Oscar submission. He subsequently directed Disney's soccer drama The United, followed by Strangely In Love, a Chaplinesque romantic comedy set in Los Angeles starring Amanda Plummer; and The Rendezvous, a Hitchcock-inspired caper adventure featuring Stana Katic (Castle, Absentia) set in the Arabian desert. In television, he co-wrote the pilot and directed two episodes of Netflix's teen supernatural thriller Jinn (2019). Amin holds an MFA in Directing from the American Film Institute and is a graduate of the ABC/DGA TV Directors program. His latest film for Sony, 5000 Blankets, starring Anna Camp (Pitch Perfect), is currently in post-production.
