Biography

Jack Vance is renowned for his work in fantasy and science fiction. He received the Hugo Award from the World Science Fiction Society for *The Dragon Masters* (1963), both the Hugo and Nebula Awards from the Science Fiction Writers of America for *The Last Castle* (1966), and the World Fantasy Award for *Lyonesse: Madouc* (1990).

He also authored eleven traditional murder mysteries under his full name, John Holbrook Vance—one of which, *Bad Ronald* (1955), was adapted into films in both English and French—and four mysteries under the house pseudonym Ellery Queen.

From 1998 to 2005, a global group of fans compiled the *Vance Integral Edition* of his works, correcting accumulated errors and restoring the original text altered by editors. This edition consists of 44 volumes, with 22 published in 2003 and the remaining volumes released in 2005.
