Synopsis

In "De Nonnen," a haunting four-part documentary series, the shadows of Belgian church history come to life, revealing a chapter long shrouded in silence. Through raw and unflinching testimonies, fourteen survivors recount their harrowing experiences of physical, psychological, and sexual abuse at the hands of female clergy. These nuns, once the feared overseers of orphanages and boarding schools, ruled with an iron grip, leaving indelible scars on those in their care.

For too long, these voices were muted, their stories buried in the depths of history. Now, with the guidance of Professor Ines Keygnaert, Rik Devillé, and candid responses from Church representatives, the series confronts this painful legacy head-on. "De Nonnen" not only shines a light on the past but insists these stories take their rightful place in history, demanding acknowledgment and understanding from all who dare to watch.
