Synopsis

In a fight between two giant monsters named Takkong and Zazahn, young race car driver Hideki Go is killed while trying to rescue a little boy and a dog from the falling rubble. His valiant sacrifice is noted by everyone, even his friends and the new defense force MAT, but an unseen being also takes notice. Looking over Go is the "New Ultraman", who is so touched by Go's actions that he decides to combine his life force with that of Hideki, thus bringing him back to life. Hideki Go then joins the MAT and fights alongside them and Ultraman against monsters and alien invaders.

Trivia

Many consider it the best of the 70s Ultra Series.
This was the first Ultra Series to connect all the previous Ultra Series. Ultraman: A Special Effects Fantasy Series (1966) and Ultraseven (1967) were set in entirely separate continuities. (The first series took place in 1993, and the latter in 1987.) Set in the Present, this series retroactively places all earlier series in the past.
The series was initially based on a 1969 story treatment commissioned by Eiji Tsuburaya and titled "Zoku Urutoraman" ("Ultraman Continues"). It was planned as a direct sequel to the original Ultraman: A Special Effects Fantasy Series (1966), with all original cast members returning to their roles and Hayata ('Susumu Kurobe') finding and mentoring a successor to the Beta Capsule. Eiji Tsuburaya, unfortunately, died before production started. The story was eventually reworked into this series, featuring an all-new Ultraman and an all new human host (Hideki Go).
