Synopsis
Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin. 1989. A sheltered teen, Mike, is trapped in a banal suburban existence until he is unexpectedly forced out of his house for being gay. He moves to the city to find his chosen family while navigating the pitfalls of life, love, sex and survival.\n\nAbandoned by friends and family, he befriends dramatic diva Julian, who becomes the gateway to his newfound life. Mike and Julian move to the eclectic and artsy Norman building in the heart of downtown Milwaukee. Promiscuous and handsome Andrew, eccentric artist Stevie, and grumpy but loveable, local bartender, Kurt welcome the new arrivals with open arms. They introduce Mike to Navy Blue, a colorful local drag queen with secrets. Soon, na\u00efve Mike finds himself swept up in the city's vibrant nightlife, indulging in drugs and too many men while bad decisions are around every corner. The boys are invited into the world at "The Norman" building where Stevie & Andrew live a la The Milwaukee Chelsea Hotel, which is filled with artists, bohemians, communists, drag queens. Showcasing how vibrant and creative in the face of adversity this group could be, and the consequences of being "out" and artistic in the face of a gay-hating government\/era\/community bring the boys (and building residents) closer together. However, as their bonds grow stronger, broken family ties haunt them while infidelities, drug use, and internal struggles cause friction and threaten to break the bonds between them\n\nWith his new friends, Mike navigates life, sex, and survival as the AIDS virus and Jeffrey Dahmer quietly afflict the city, putting his community on edge and threatening to cast shadows on Mike's newfound freedom.
