                  M81 - Bode's Galaxy - Deep Sky Videos

                  December 28th, 2020

Professor Merrifield explains the theory that the arms of spiral arms are formed by star formation caused by a compression wave in the gas within the galaxy. However, a study of Bodes's galaxy, the featured galaxy in this program, did not find that behavior.

M94 - Rings and Rotation Curves - Deep Sky Videos

                  October 5th, 2020

Messier 94 appear to be a double ring galaxy which is extremely rare. Which raises the question; What is it really? And it also has a really weird rotation curve which has equally weird implication for dark matter. This galaxy will take some explaining.

M14 - Cluster Destruction - Deep Sky Videos

                  September 2nd, 2020

Galaxies have globular clusters of hundreds of thousands to millions of stars scattered all through them. In these dense balls of stars all manner of things happen to destabilize the star's orbits and cast them away. So astronomers put some effort into determining how long it take the stars of these clusters to be scattered around a galaxy and what processes cause the scattering.

                  April 15th, 2020

Messier 63 is a beautiful flocculant spiral galaxy. Flocculant because it is experiencing a great deal of star formation in it's spiral arms to such an extent that the spiral arm are difficult to discern in the visible spectrum.

M60 - And the 3rd densest galaxy - Deep Sky Videos

                  March 18th, 2020

Nearby the elliptical galaxy Messier 60 is an extremely bright, extremely compact dwarf galaxy with an inordinately large central black hole for a galaxy it's size. Astronomer are pretty sure some galactic cannibalize is going on there.
