Klara McDonnell began her theatre acting career at 16 when she joined Tallaght Youth Theatre. She later trained as a drama facilitator and collaborated with various youth theatres. As an actor, she studied under Graham Cantwell (Film Venture), David Scott, Hope Brown (Agni Acting Studio), and Mary Murray. Her television debut was on R.T.E's "Echo Island," where she was interviewed about her first trip to Hollywood, attended the VMAs, and was shown busking on Grafton Street with a presenter from the show. Klara has worked on feature films (Portrait of a Zombie), short films (Tin Man - TG4), TV series (Fair City - RTE), and stage productions (Love Songs for Losers, Absolut Fringe 2011).
Klara hosted the online traditional Irish music show LiveIreland for seven years and presented on online platforms including Kildare TV, Busker TV, The Sound Feed, and Dubz TV. As a voice-over artist, she contributed to online commercials and the RTE documentary "A Rebel Act," which aired on Irish television in 2015.
She has also worked intermittently as a life drawing model for many years. In October 2014, an RTE 2 documentary (Full Frontal) featured behind-the-scenes footage from her photo shoot for Stellar magazine and included an interview discussing her perspectives on nudity.
Klara is a musician, graduating from Ballyfermot Rock School in 2003. For five years, she co-wrote songs with Sean Cray, a guitarist and singer from Liverpool. Performing as Hypno Puppet, they played at numerous venues and festivals across Ireland, such as Whelans, The Grand Social, Cyprus Avenue, and Knockanstockan. Their debut EP, produced by Ruarc Stokes, was released in April 2015.
This February, Klara will appear on a well-known UK reality show alongside her actress friend Dani Masterson.
