June Jing Wang, a Chinese Canadian, is a former journalist for CCTV (China Central TV Station) and an "Outstanding Youth" award recipient from the Chinese TV & Broadcasting Academy. In her early twenties, she published her first book, a literary monograph titled Watching Seas Listening to Tides, which earned her recognition in China.
In 2004, Wang earned a Master of Arts in Cinema Studies from York University in Canada. Two years later, in 2006, she wrote and directed her debut feature film, Forever Fireworks, which was showcased at the 2008 Busan International Film Festival.
After spending over two years developing the script for her second feature, Perfect Baby, she directed and filmed it in Paris in 2011. The film was shortlisted at film festivals in England and New York, screened at China’s Huabiao Awards, and achieved strong box office success and favorable reviews in Chinese mainstream cinemas. In 2012, Wang received the "En Route to France Award" from the FilmFrance Commission and was recognized as a "Promising Director."
Wang then contributed to the China-France co-produced feature Wolf Totem as Co-Producer, Script Coordinator, and Documentary Director. The film won a Hua Biao Award and grossed $130 million worldwide in 2015.
Her third feature, The Tree Knows, is a magical realist romantic musical comedy set in Toronto, Buenos Aires, and China. The film explores female empowerment through the intimate lens of Tango.
In March 2020, during the global Coronavirus pandemic, Wang was stranded in Buenos Aires while conducting script research for The Tree Knows. She spontaneously produced and directed an interview-style documentary, A Tango with Chino Perico, which won the 2020 IndieFest Film Award for Special Purpose Production.
Wang’s storytelling is driven by compassion. Her characters consistently transform their vulnerabilities into strengths and rise above adversity. She is committed to creating inspirational films, believing that positive thinking has the power to uplift lives.
