Vladimir Osenev was a Russian character actor renowned for his roles as Tikhiy in Beg (1971) and Shturmer in Rasputin (1981).
Born Vladimir Ivanovich Osenev on September 21, 1908, in Moscow, Russia, his father worked as a salesman. Between 1925 and 1928, Osenev studied economics at Plekhanov College while simultaneously attending the Taneev School of Music in Moscow. From 1928 to 1930, he pursued acting studies at the Theatrical Studio of Sovtorg. Between 1930 and 1933, he performed as an actor in Sverdlovsk. From 1933 to 1937, he studied at the Vakhtangov Acting School, graduating in 1937. While still a student in 1934, Osenev made his film debut in Boule de suif, directed by Mikhail Romm.
From 1937 until 1977, Vladimir Osenev was a member of the Vakhtangov Theatre troupe in Moscow. His stage partners included notable actors such as Mikhail Ulyanov, Ruben Simonov, Boris Zakhava, Mikhail Astangov, Varvara Popova, Irina Kupchenko, Natalya Tenyakova, Yuliya Borisova, Lyudmila Maksakova, Lyudmila Tselikovskaya, Marianna Vertinskaya, Nina Ruslanova, Nikolai Plotnikov, Yuriy Yakovlev, Vladimir Etush, Vyacheslav Shalevich, Andrei Abrikosov, Grigori Abrikosov, Boris Babochkin, Nikolai Gritsenko, Nikolai Timofeyev, and Vasiliy Lanovoy, among others. In 1937, Osenev starred alongside Dina Andreeva in the popular comedy Solomennaya shlyapka (also known as A Straw Hat), directed by Andrey Tutyshkin.
Vladimir Osenev was honored with the title People's Actor of Russia. He was married to Galina Konovalova, an actress at the Vakhtangov Theatre. Osenev passed away from heart failure on April 1, 1976, and was buried at Vagankovskoe Cemetery in Moscow, Russia.
