Tate Elizabeth Hanyok is a writer, director, and actor celebrated for her bold, female-centered comedies and young adult narratives.
Her diverse portfolio includes the Hulu Original Feature Film Sex Appeal, which she wrote and produced with American High, and the internationally successful stage play Dog Mom, published by Broadway Play Publishing. She produced, starred in, and adapted the indie feature Love and Baseball from the play of the same name, which was featured on HBO Max. Tate also directed the thrilling and darkly humorous Friends Until The End for A&E.
Originally from Virginia, Tate left her Civil War reenactment background to join a West Coast theatre company. She began her storytelling on stage, developing a character-driven, empathetic voice that shapes her versatile work, informed by the unpredictable and often humorous experiences of underdogs and the power of community.
Tate wrote the romantic comedy The Pet Nup, now in pre-production with Mucho Mas, alongside her elevated horror feature Zeus. She has been commissioned to adapt novels into films, including a female-driven soccer romance for PictureStart and a Catholic school mystery for WattPad. Selected for the Warner Bros. Access TV Directing Program, she also had the opportunity to shadow on Abbott Elementary.
As an actress, Tate has guest-starred in numerous acclaimed TV shows and films such as The Office, Superstore, The Detour, Community, Shameless, Transparent, and Burt Wonderstone, along with nearly 100 commercial appearances.
Recognized as one of MovieMaker’s Top 25 Writers to Watch and honored with multiple "Best Director" awards for her holiday comedy What The Elf?!, Tate infuses her work with a dynamic tonal range, skillfully blending humor, heart, and suspense while focusing on complex, resilient female leads.
