Blair has created over two hundred compositions for film, theatre, and television, collaborating with The English National Ballet, the Royal Shakespeare Company, and broadcasters such as BBC, Sky, and ITV. A BAFTA-nominated and award-winning composer with nearly 20 years of professional experience, he is recognized for emotionally charged, character-driven scores featuring strong melodic themes.
Recent television highlights include Blair’s BAFTA-nominated score for Russell T Davies’s ITV drama Nolly (2024). This partnership led directly to Men Up, a BBC One film executive-produced by Davies. His other credits include the Doctor Who spin-off Class, ITV’s popular series McDonald & Dodds, and Mark Gatiss’s directorial debut for Sky, The Amazing Mr Blunden. Blair also composed the score for the BritBox thriller After the Flood, which returned for a second season in early 2026. At the end of 2025, The Guest, a new thriller for BBC One and Showtime scored by Blair, premiered and became one of the most-watched BBC dramas that year.
Blair earned a BA (Hons) in Music from Durham University and an MA in Composition for Film and Television from the University of Bristol, graduating with Distinction. In 2012, he received nominations for both a Creative Scotland Award for Best New Talent and a BAFTA Scotland Award. McDonald & Dodds and The Amazing Mr Blunden were both nominated for Best Original TV Score and Best Opening Titles at the Music + Sound Awards, while Nolly was nominated for Best Original TV Score in 2023 and won Best TV Score in Europe at the 2024 Camille Awards.
His recent film work includes Doctor Jekyll, a Hammer Horror feature starring Eddie Izzard, and Black Dog, which premiered at the BFI London Film Festival. In 2024, Blair scored two documentaries: Becoming Hitchcock, directed by Laurent Bouzereau for StudioCanal, and The Age of Disclosure, which premiered at SXSW and became one of the most widely discussed and viewed documentaries of the year after its release on Amazon Prime Video. Blair’s score for The Age of Disclosure won Best Documentary Film Score of the Year at the 2026 ASCAP Composers’ Choice Awards.
Blair divides his time between London, Los Angeles, and Edinburgh.
