Marlen Hecht is among the pioneering female producers with three films debuting at the Sundance Film Festival. She is also a director and a trailblazer in post-production, founding and serving as CEO of Teatown Video, Inc. (also known as Teatown Communications Group), where she established one of the first interformat editing facilities. Without partners or investors, she built Teatown Video, Inc. into a multi-million-dollar post-production, VFX, and graphics company, working on projects that have earned Academy and Emmy Awards. Her clients include NBC, ABC, CBS, HBO, Showtime, Sony Pictures, Warner Brothers, AMC, Comedy Central, Disney Channel, and many more. She has been featured in New York Magazine’s “How Women Can Thrive” and New York Women in Film & TV’s “The Feminization of Power: Women as Entrepreneurs.”
As a producer alongside Dean Silvers, Hecht’s films include Manny & Lo (1996) starring Scarlett Johansson; Wigstock: The Movie (1995), one of the highest-grossing LGBTQ documentaries ever; and Committed (2000) featuring Heather Graham, Casey Affleck, and Mark Ruffalo. She has also produced TV shows for HBO, IFC, Netflix, Discovery, TruTV, and others. Her latest comedy series, Becoming Jiff (2018), released by Samuel Goldwyn Films on Amazon Prime Video, received critical praise. BuzzFeed called it “a funny, sweet, and highly binge-able comedy,” The Film Stage likened the filmmakers to Judd Apatow, calling them “talented emerging writer-directors… here to take up the comedy mantle,” and Stage 32 named them “the best new comedy filmmakers.”
Hecht has lectured at NYU and the Sundance Institute. She is an Independent Spirit Award nominee and a multiple Telly Award winner.
