In his early years, Joseph Tito mastered a variety of creative pursuits, including dancing, modeling, writing, and acting. His impressive portfolio from this period includes roles in independent films and television, as well as the completion of his first novel, Random Thoughts (2001). Like many working actors in Toronto, he faced limited opportunities for leading roles. Joseph’s film performances capture the passion, drive, and complexity of the characters he portrays. He also began developing his ideas into screenplays, having written seven to date: Random Thoughts (2002), Fidelity (2003), Windows (2004), Immortal (2003), Nothing Ever Changes (2003), Balla Che Ti Passa (2005), and I Know You Love Me (2006).
In 2002, Joseph combined his diverse creative talents by founding Jeo Productions. His goal is to collaborate with artists across various media, including film and photography, to provoke thought and inspire societal change. His films challenge societal norms, deconstructing established views on religion, family, love, friendship, and sexuality.
In 2003, Joseph starred as the lead in Immortal and Nothing Ever Changes, taking on multiple roles as screenwriter, director, and actor. Immortal premiered at Toronto's Inside Out Film Festival in 2004 and was showcased at festivals worldwide, including Washington D.C., Sydney, and Madrid. That same year, Joseph relocated to Rome, Italy, expanding Jeo Productions' presence from Toronto to Europe. While in Italy, he completed Windows (2004), a short film adapted from Kellerman’s Windows, a short story by the late Canadian author Timothy Findley. With support from the Findley estate, Joseph brought this poignant story of life and love to the screen. Windows was selected for numerous film festivals and won Best Director at the 2005 Giuseppe Dessì Literary Film Festival.
Joseph recently finished his first feature film, Balla Che Ti Passa (Dance As If No One Is Watching) (2005), a collaboration with renowned Italian dancer and choreographer Silvio Oddi. This surreal film combines choreographed dance sequences with compelling characters whose struggles may resonate with viewers. Balla Che Ti Passa premiered at the Rome Film Festival in 2005 and was released in theaters in Bologna, Italy, in March 2006. Joseph also worked with Silvio Oddi on Telepass, a television pilot depicting the life of a dancer in Italy. In 2006, Joseph traveled to Jamaica to film another TV series, Mr. Caribbean International.
In 2008, Joseph filmed Death of the Virgin, a modern psychological thriller/horror shot between Toronto, Canada, and the small Italian town of Caravaggio. Inspired by a true story, the film draws from the town’s 1432 apparition of the Virgin Mary and the dramatic paintings of Caravaggio. Starring Natasha Allan, Maria Grazia Cucinotta, and Silvio Oddi, the film is slated for release in spring 2009.
