Catherine Tait was named President and CEO of CBC/Radio-Canada on April 3, 2018, for a five-year term, commencing her role on July 3, 2018. She also serves as Chair of the Global Task Force for Public Media, an initiative launched by the Public Media Alliance in September 2019.
In her role as President and CEO, Catherine oversees the management of CBC/Radio-Canada to ensure the national public broadcaster fulfills its mandate by providing Canadians with a diverse range of high-quality programming that informs, educates, and entertains, created by, for, and about Canadians.
Before this appointment, Catherine co-founded Duopoly Inc, an independent film, television, and digital content company based in New York, serving as its President from 2002 to 2018. She also co-founded the digital content company iThentic in 2006 and Hollywood Suite, a Canadian broadcasting company, in 2010. Earlier, she was President and COO of Salter Street Films from 1997 to 2001. Her experience includes roles with the Government of Canada as Director and Cultural Attaché at the Canadian Cultural Centre in Paris and as Manager of Policy and Planning at Telefilm Canada, where she developed a strong passion for Canadian film and television.
Catherine has served on numerous industry boards, including Comweb Group, DHX Media Ltd, Hollywood Suite (which she co-founded), iThentic Inc, eOne Entertainment, CHUM Ltd, Aliant Inc, Rogers Mobile Film Fund, and the Canadian Film and Television Production Association.
She holds a Diplôme d'Études Approfondies in Communications Theory from the University of Paris II Panthéon-Assas (1983), a Master of Science from Boston University's School of Public Communication (1982), and a Bachelor of Arts (Honors) in Literature and Philosophy from the University of Toronto (1979).
In 2019, Catherine was honored as Playback's Executive of the Year.
