Elaine Joyce starred in the Broadway musical "Sugar" from 1972 until its closing, alongside Tony Roberts and Robert Morse. She was a frequent participant on TV game shows in the early 1970s, often appearing with her first husband, Bobby Van.
The relationship between Bobby and Elaine was complicated. On October 30, 1967, an announcement was made (Daily News, Oct. 30, 1967) claiming they had married, but this was not true. In November, a Hollywood column (The El Dorado Times, Nov. 29, 1967) reported that Bobby said they planned to marry on December 2, 1967; however, her brother, Frank Pinchot, had chosen that date for his own wedding, so they intended to pick another. In February 1968, it was announced they would marry in Los Angeles on March 21. They were eventually married in Las Vegas on May 1, 1968 (Clark County marriage license and New Castle News, Pennsylvania, May 13, 1968).
Just a week later, Van filed for an annulment (Los Angeles Times, May 7, 1968; Independent Long Beach, May 7, 1968), citing "fraud, non-consummation," and alleging that the "24-year-old actress told him she wanted children only to induce him into marriage." Bobby was quoted saying Elaine felt "so unhappy and insecure (about marrying) that it's the only way" (New Castle News, Pennsylvania, May 13, 1968). She later admitted on Tattletales that she "tried to run away." A preliminary divorce filing appears in 1968 for Elaine Joyce and Bobby Van in the California Divorce Index, listing her as Elaine J. Pinchot, born in 1943. It seems the divorce was never finalized, and they remained married for 12 years.
Elaine married John Levoff in 1985; they divorced in 1992.
In 1999, she married playwright Neil Simon, remaining together until his death in 2018.
She has two children: Taylor Joyce Van (with Bobby Van, born 1967) and Michael Francis Levoff (with John Levoff, born 1986).
