Rex Hagon was born in 1947 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, to William and Corinne Hagon, as the second of three siblings. His older brother, Garrick, is a prolific actor known for his work on stage, in film, and in numerous audiobooks, while his sister June, now retired, dedicated her career to geriatric medicine.
Rex began his acting career at age five, appearing in numerous CBC-TV and radio productions. One of his early successes was landing the lead role of "The Kid" in W.O. Mitchell's iconic "Jake and the Kid." He also starred in the popular Canadian TV series "The Forest Rangers" as Peter Keeley, acting alongside Ralph Endersby, Susan Conway, and Peter Tully. Filmed in Kleinberg, the rugged nature of the show required Rex to draw on his outdoor skills, fostering a lifelong passion for nature that he has shared with his family.
Rex left "The Forest Rangers" to complete his high school education at Upper Canada College. After graduating, he attended the University of Toronto, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree before returning to professional acting full-time.
He gained further recognition with a cult role on TVOntario's beloved children's program "The Polka Dot Door." The original episodes aired from 1971 through the late 1980s, with many viewers fondly recalling the energetic character "Polkaroo."
Like many successful Canadian performers, Rex maintained a diverse career to navigate the industry's fluctuations. He combined his passion for children's programming with work in commercials, films, audiobooks, and instructional videos.
In 1985, Rex shifted his focus to consulting and coaching senior corporate executives, helping them enhance their communication skills with greater clarity, confidence, and impact.
