Mark McClafferty is an acclaimed American film and television producer, writer, and Chairman of Spellbound Pictures. Formerly President of Eddie Murphy Productions at Paramount Studios, he has produced numerous TV shows, including the award-winning comedy special What's Alan Watching, honored by the Television Critics Association. He also produced and executive produced the acclaimed film The Climb. His latest feature production is Class War.
Early in his career, Mark worked at ABC as Director of Program Research. Within three years, he transitioned to a creative role at Paramount Pictures as Director of Creative Affairs for Miller/Milkus/Boyett Productions, where he helped develop new programs and oversaw popular comedies such as Happy Days, Mork & Mindy, Laverne & Shirley, Angie, and Bosom Buddies, which marked Tom Hanks' first Hollywood project.
Returning to ABC as a program executive, Mark advanced to Director of Dramatic Programming, overseeing hit shows like Hart to Hart, Dynasty, Fantasy Island, Hotel, Hardcastle & McCormick, and The Greatest American Hero. During this time, he met prolific producer Glen A. Larson and joined Twentieth Century Fox as Executive Vice President and Producer, contributing to successful series including Battlestar Galactica, The Fall Guy, Cover Up, Magnum P.I., and Trauma Center.
Recruited by Eddie Murphy, Mark returned to Paramount Pictures to serve as President of Eddie Murphy Television Productions for seven years, managing all operations. Under his leadership, the company sold eight network shows, including the acclaimed What's Alan Watching and CBS's The Royal Family, starring Redd Foxx and Della Reese, for which Mark was Executive Producer and writer. He also produced several other series, the iconic Best of Eddie Murphy Saturday Night Live Video, and co-wrote and executive produced the film The Kid Who Loved Christmas, featuring Cicely Tyson, Charlie Murphy, Vanessa L. Williams, Ray Parker Jr., Esther Rolle, and Sammy Davis Jr. in his final film role.
Together with his partner Pamela, Mark co-founded Spellbound Pictures Ltd USA and secured a $60 million, 12-picture deal with Ellipse/Canal+, the French entertainment giant, to provide the United Artists Theater Circuit with a steady stream of family-friendly films. Mark was appointed Chairman of the consortium. Under this agreement, Spellbound produced The Climb. Other consortium projects continue to be shown across Europe.
The Climb garnered major festival awards in Vienna, Giffoni, Berlin (winning the Golden Bear UNICEF Award), Houston, and Flagstaff. It was released theatrically and has aired on HBO, Showtime, Encore, and Stars, with worldwide digital sales. Spellbound Pictures currently has several projects in development for streaming platforms. Additionally, Mark and Pamela produced and released the best-selling comedy special Katt Williams Live, marking Katt's first comedy special, which has aired repeatedly on Comedy Central.
In 2025, Mark produced three songs under the Spellbound banner: Shades of Black and White, Reflections, and Soldiers Not Forgot, alongside launching BLUE, a novel by Walter Jones that has consistently appeared on bestseller lists.
Upcoming productions include the musical Artland, featuring music by legendary composer Stanley Clarke and book and lyrics by Pamela Edwards McClafferty; Hush Harlem, produced and written by Mark, Pamela Edwards McClafferty, and Clint Smith, a former partner from Eddie Murphy Productions; and Laser Sentinel, a collaboration between Pamela Edwards McClafferty and David Garber.
Mark is a member of the Writers Guild of America (WGA), Producers Guild of America (PGA), Who's Who in America, and the Omicron Delta Kappa Society, which honors academic and artistic achievement. He has also been recognized by the University of Delaware as one of its 100 most notable graduates.
