Jere Shea is an American actor and musician, nominated for a Tony Award. He stars in the Showtime series City On A Hill (2019), produced by Ben Affleck and Matt Damon, alongside Kevin Bacon and Aldis Hodge. Jere played Giorgio in the film adaptation of Stephen Sondheim's Broadway musical Passion (American Playhouse/PBS), a role he originally performed on Broadway, earning a Tony nomination for Best Actor in a Musical in 1994. He appears in Max Winkler's film JUNGLELAND (2019) with Charlie Hunnam, Jack O'Connell, and Jessica Barden. His television credits include Blue Bloods (CBS), Path to Paradise (HBO), Law & Order, The Cosby Mysteries (NBC) with Bill Cosby, Rita Moreno, and James Naughton, as well as A Season in Purgatory (CBS miniseries) with Patrick Dempsey and Brian Dennehy. Jere portrayed Dr. George Soper in Typhoid Mary (NOVA/PBS) and appeared opposite Donnie Wahlberg, Will Arnett, Rose McGowan, and Anne Meara in the feature film SOUTHIE, which won Best Film at the Seattle Film Festival.
Comfortable both on stage and screen, Jere earned a Tony nomination for his role as Giorgio opposite Donna Murphy and Marin Mazzie in the Broadway/world premiere of Stephen Sondheim's Passion. He first gained recognition in the New York Shakespeare Festival's production of As You Like It, featuring Elizabeth McGovern and Michael Stuhlbarg. Jere also starred in Jerry Zaks' Broadway revival of Guys and Dolls with Nathan Lane and Faith Prince, as well as in Jack O'Brien's revival of Damn Yankees alongside Victor Garber and Bebe Neuwirth. He has taken leading roles at theaters nationwide, including San Diego's Old Globe, ACT in San Francisco, Manhattan Theater Club, Roundabout Stage Company, Williamstown Theater Festival, and the North Country Center for the Arts Papermill Playhouse in Lincoln, NH. A classically trained method actor, Jere studied internationally at New York University's Tisch School of the Arts Graduate Acting Program (MFA), the Moscow Art Theatre School in the Soviet Union, and Ireland's Abbey Theatre in Dublin. In addition to acting, Jere is a skilled singer, songwriter, and guitarist, performing in venues of various sizes. He is featured on the Grammy Award-winning Original Broadway Cast recording of Passion, produced by Phil Ramone.
