Andreas Baum studied law in Göttingen, Germany, and has been working since 1987 as a television journalist, writer, director, and producer for ZDF, ZDFinfo, ARTE, 3sat, ARD, MDR, and others. As a child, he appeared in the film "Lausbubenstreiche."
He is the founder and owner of the production company "EXIT Film- und Fernsehproduktion" and contributes to investigative television programs such as "Frontal 21" (ZDF), "WISO" (ZDF), and "Umschau" (MDR). Additionally, he writes, directs, and produces documentaries up to 90 minutes in length for ZDFzoom, ARTE, ZDFinfo, 3sat, and "Umschau Extra" (MDR/ARD).
In 2015, Baum received the "Gold World Medal" at the New York Festivals' "World's Best Television and Films" as writer, director, and producer for his international ZDF/ARTE documentary "The Lot of Fun: Where the Movies Learned to Laugh.
