Jen is a Multimedia Producer known for her dynamic creativity, technical expertise, social media skills, and strong community engagement.
In her Central Florida community, Vargas actively supports creatives. She holds membership in the Florida Cultural Alliance, serves as a voting member of the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences Suncoast Chapter, and is an alternate Board Member of Film Florida, a key leader in the state's Film, Television, and Digital Media sectors. Within Film Florida, Vargas contributes to the Industry & Association Council and the Marketing & Communications Committee. Additionally, she participates on Valencia College's Digital Media Advisory Board and has previously served on the Community Advisory Board for Orlando NPR station WMFE 90.7, as well as on the Board of Women in Film and Television Florida. She is also a lifetime member of the International Thespian Society.
In 2011, Jen applied her social media expertise to the Oscar campaign for the award-winning documentary "Tanzania: A Journey Within."
Beyond film and television, Jen acts as a Technology and Social Media Ambassador in Orange County, Florida, and is a member of the Orlando Tech Council. She volunteers as a Representative At Large on Orange County's Disability Advisory Board and its Veterans Subcommittee. Her past roles include service on 90.7 WMFE's Community Advisory Board and the Content & Community Outreach Committee. Recognized by the Orlando Business Journal as one of Orlando's most influential Twitter users, she was also a Shorty Awards finalist and named a 2013 Top Ten Tech Hero by CBS Interactive's TechRepublic.
Jen has supported numerous local organizations and nonprofits with their social media efforts, including The Maker Effect Foundation, Orlando Maker Faire, MakerFx Makerspace, Taste of Central Florida (benefiting Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida and the Central Florida Homeless Coalition), The Schwartz Tech Awards, Women in Film and Television Florida, Film Florida, Orlando International Fringe Theatre Festival, Orlando Economic Development Commission, American Cancer Society of Central Florida, Making Strides Against Breast Cancer of Orlando, Relay For Life of Hunter's Creek, and American Cancer Society's R.O.C.K. Camp.
She authors a weekly column in the Orlando Sentinel's Opinion section as part of the Central Florida 100 Most Influential community leaders series. Jen currently hosts and produces FilmSlam, a well-established 17-year screening series at the Orlando Museum of Art that spotlights Florida filmmakers.
