Ableson, son of the legendary crooner Frankie Vaughan, launched his career on the London stage with sell-out performances in "The Ecstasy," "Bent," and "A Midsummer Night's Dream" at the Globe Theatre. He also starred in award-winning musicals such as "Sweet Charity," "Oklahoma," and "Godspell," which premiered at the prestigious International Edinburgh Festival.
Following two seasons on the UK sitcom "Second Thoughts" and numerous commercial appearances, Ableson relocated to the US in 1995. He quickly secured roles in "Nash Bridges" and the 1996 feature film "Boyfriends," where he ironically returned to the UK to portray Owen, the film’s bad boy.
In 2000, Ableson earned multiple awards for his role as Mark, a needy, love-hungry heroin addict, in the West Coast premieres of Mark Ravenhill's groundbreaking play "Shopping & Fucking" in Los Angeles and San Francisco. The following year, he further cemented his reputation by starring as the legendary theatre critic Kenneth Tynan in Austin Pendleton's Pulitzer-nominated "Orsons’ Shadow," another multi-award-winning L.A. premiere. Other West Coast premieres in which he appeared include the acclaimed nightly-improvised play "Torn," the multi-award-winning musical "The Beastly Bombing," as well as "End Days," "Smoke Lilies & Jade," and "Haywire!".
Among his numerous TV and film credits since then, Ableson played the lead in the surreal comedy "By The Soles Of Our Feet" and recently filmed features such as "Dirty Girl" co-starring Mila Jovovich and William H. Macy, "Caffeine" with Katherine Heigl and Mena Suvari, the festival hit "The Gymnast," and "New Suit." He also portrayed all the waiters and chefs in Robert Zemeckis’ "The Polar Express" alongside Tom Hanks.
His voice work includes "Ug" in DreamWorks' "How To Train Your Dragon 2," the villain Valmont in two seasons of "The Jackie Chan Adventures," and the initial voice of Gnomeo in Disney's "Gnomeo & Juliet." Additional credits include "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest," "Speed Racer," "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides," "Get Smart," as well as numerous video games and TV commercials.
Ableson's commercial work features an Emmy-winning NFL Fox spot, international campaigns for Xelebri Communications directed by David Fincher, and national ads for Mini, Wendy's, Cars.com, Arby's, Jack In The Box, Ford, Microsoft, Audi, Lexus, and the award-winning Cingular Star Wars commercial with Chewbacca.
He continues to live, work, and sing whenever possible in Los Angeles, California.
