Born in Twickenham, England, in 1938, she began dance lessons at age six with Kate Walker in Weybridge.
In 1949, she moved to Sydney, Australia with her parents and continued her dance education at Estelle Anderson's studio.
Her first dance contract came in 1955 with JC Williamson's musical "Can Can," which toured Australia and New Zealand for 18 months. In the following years, she performed in numerous plays, including Alice in Wonderland, The Willow Pattern Plate, and Hey Diddle Diddle.
Starting around 1960, she appeared in several television variety specials. In 1965, she became the weather presenter at GTV9, while continuing to perform in variety shows both in Australia and Canada in 1966.
In 1964, she played Shirley Muggleton in "Barley Charlie" and later appeared in TV series such as Number 96, Arcade, G.P., Gotcha, Going Home, Home and Away, and All Saints.
In 1967, she gained recognition as Madge the Manicurist in Palmolive detergent commercials, becoming an iconic figure on Australian television.
Her career has been extensive and diverse. In 2011, she received the Medal of the Order of Australia for her contributions to the arts, particularly dance, and was also honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Australian Dance Awards committee.
