Tracy Ryan was born in Kitchener, Ontario, Canada, in 1971. She attended the University of Toronto, graduating in 1992 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in a combined major of Drama and Irish Studies. A versatile actress, she has made her mark in theatre, film, and television, and has recently ventured into writing. Her television breakthrough came with a regular role on the soap opera "Family Passions," where she portrayed Calla, a blind girl, in a demanding schedule of 130 episodes. Ryan describes the experience as "the boot camp of acting." A graduate of the University of Toronto's drama program, she has been a consistent presence in Toronto's theatre scene, performing in productions such as Cafe Naked, Controlling Interest, Amazon Dream, Born in the Grave, and Coyote Ugly. Her film and television work includes the lead role of Nancy Drew in thirteen episodes of Nelvana's "Nancy Drew" (1995), appearances in two episodes of "The Hardy Boys" (1995), "Dark Angel" (2000), and "Twice in a Lifetime" (1999), where she acted alongside Wil Wheaton, Al Waxman, and Paul Popowich. She also featured in the films Stealing Harvard (2002) and Comeback Season (2006). Ryan played a leading role in the Canadian Film Centre production Kiss, directed by Laurie Colbert. Possessing an impressive range of cartoon voices, she has voiced several animated characters, including Linda, Ned's girlfriend in Nelvana's Ned's Newt, and 14-year-old diva Ruby in Flying Rhino Junior High. After much consideration, she recently applied for a green card to pursue the numerous opportunities available in the U.S., but she assures that Toronto will always be her home.
