Alfred Giovanni Roncalli Boe, born on September 29, 1973, in Blackpool, Lancashire, UK, is an English singer and actor renowned for his work in musical theatre and his albums blending classical music, show tunes, and popular genres. The youngest of nine siblings, he was named after the Italian name of Pope John XXII. At 17, while working as a car mechanic at the TVR factory in Bispham, a client connected to the music industry heard him sing and encouraged him to audition for the D'Oyly Carte Opera Company in London. After a successful audition, Boe relocated to London to study at the Royal College of Music, the National Opera Studio, and the Royal Opera House. In 2002, he landed a leading role in the Broadway production of "La Bohème," featured on the cast album, and a year later, along with the other leads, received a Tony Honors Award. His debut solo album, "Classic FM Presents Alfie Boe," was released in 2006. In 2010, he portrayed Jean Valjean in Les Misérables in Concert: The 25th Anniversary, which was made available as both a video and album. Boe has appeared in numerous stage productions, including the 2011 ENO presentation of Gilbert and Sullivan's "The Mikado" and the 2017 limited run of Rodgers and Hammerstein's "Carousel," and has performed at the BBC Proms in 2012. In 2019, he was appointed Officer of the Order of the British Empire in recognition of his contributions to music and charity. He tours extensively across the UK and US, performing classical and popular music both solo and with other artists. He was married to Sarah Boe from 2004 until their separation in 2020, and they have two children, daughter Grace and son Alfred Robert.
