Aidan Moore Whytock was born in Johannesburg, South Africa, to Ron and Bonnie Whytock. The son of a commercial pilot, he was raised in Singapore. During his teenage years, he attended boarding school in England, where he developed a passion for theatre. Uncertain about his career path, Aidan studied Social Anthropology at the University of Cape Town. He holds degrees in Social Anthropology, Environmental Science, and a postgraduate qualification in Enterprise Management. As Vice-Chair of the prestigious UCT RAG organization, he helped raise funds for charity by organizing the city's largest student parties and fundraisers. It was here that he was recruited by one of the world's leading breweries.
After working as a beer salesman, management consultant, event manager, and entrepreneur, Aidan eventually returned to his theatrical roots. Following his second professional stage performance, he won South Africa's Fleur Du Cap People's Choice Award and shifted his focus to film.
He appeared in several indie short films before securing a minor role in Safehouse (2012). He continued in indie shorts until being cast opposite Claire Danes in Homeland Season 4 (2014). Shortly after, he became a series regular playing Jacob Garrett in Michael Bay's pirate drama Black Sails (2014-2016).
Aidan then moved into directing and producing, starting with short films. His third short, The Choice (2015), won the prestigious Mercedes-Benz Award at the Mercedes-Benz Bokeh International Fashion Film Festival (2015). His directorial and lead acting debut in the feature film The Actor (2014) was made on an impressive budget of just USD 3,500 and achieved a theatrical release.
The year 2016 was a busy one for Aidan; he won awards for Best Director and Best Producer, and was cast in the feature films Dagba (2017), 24 Hours to Live (2017), the grindhouse series Blood Drive (2017), and No Man Left Behind (2016).
