Alysia Reiner, an award-winning actress, is renowned for her role as "Fig" throughout all seven seasons of Orange Is the New Black, which earned her a SAG Award. She originated the character of Agent Sadie Deever in the acclaimed, Emmy and Critics Choice Award-winning Disney+/Marvel series Ms. Marvel and appeared in seasons 2 and 3 of The Diplomat. Recently, she completed five seasons as Sunny on the Peabody Award-winning Better Things (FX/Hulu), two seasons as Kiki on The Deuce (HBO), and two seasons as Kathryn in Shining Vale alongside Courteney Cox and Greg Kinnear (HBO/Max).
Her recent film work includes The Feeling That the Time for Doing Something Has Passed (a 2025 Independent Spirit Awards nominee), leading Stampede Ventures’ feature Going Places (Cinequest), and Ramona at Midlife (screened at BFF, Woodstock, Berlin Women, among others). Other notable performances include her wedding scene in the Oscar-winning Sideways, a nude scene in an Emmy-winning episode of Broad City, and a showdown with Viola Davis in How to Get Away with Murder. Recent feature films also include O Horizon with David Strathairn and Maria Bakalova, Our Bodies and Other Shames with Gideon Adlon and Michela Diamond, and Transcendent featuring comedian Cat Cohen and Helene Yorke.
As a producer, Alysia produced and starred in the motherhood dark comedy EGG alongside Christina Hendricks and Anna Camp. It premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival just before the pandemic and holds a 100% Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes. She also conceived, developed, produced, and starred in the feature film Equity, which was acquired and distributed by Sony Pictures Classics at Sundance 2016. Currently, she is developing a slate of new film and TV projects.
Equity marked Alysia's debut as both actress and producer in a feature film, but she has appeared in numerous critically acclaimed and award-winning projects with renowned filmmakers including Alexander Payne (Sideways), Jodie Foster, Richard Loncraine, Matt Weiner, Jenji Kohan, and Pamela Adlon. She is also known for films like 5 Flights Up, Kelly and Cal, Shine, Fort Tilden, Kissing Jessica Stein, as well as multiple appearances on Law & Order series.
Classically trained in theater, Alysia has performed worldwide, from the Sundance Filmmakers Lab in Utah to London’s Royal Court Theatre, receiving standing ovations at Harlem’s Apollo Theatre and appearing at the Edinburgh Festival in Scotland. In 2025, she starred in the world premiere of Keiko Green’s You Are Cordially Invited to the End of the World. She also headlined the New York premiere of Pentecost by Tony Award-winning playwright David Edgar and performed in Tim Crouch’s two-person play An Oak Tree, which earned him a Special Obie Award. Her portrayals in Anaïs Nin: One of Her Lives as June Miller and in Wasps in Bed received critical acclaim, with The New York Times calling her "priceless."
In voice acting, Alysia voices Karen Wheeler in Netflix’s animated Stranger Things series. She completed two seasons as Ms. Marmalady on Nickelodeon’s Butterbean’s Café and has voiced numerous series, audiobooks, video games, NPR storytelling, scripted Audible podcasts, and dozens of national commercials, including 34 spots for Campbell’s Soup’s award-winning brand campaign.
A passionate advocate for women’s rights and climate action, Alysia serves on the board and as an ambassador for the Geena Davis Institute on Gender in Media, the board of Earth Day Initiative, and the advisory board of Air Protein. She is the face and zero-waste Eco-emissary for Izzy Beauty and co-founded the eco-fashion zero-waste initiative Livari. Additionally, she is an ambassador for The Dandelion Project, Fossil Fuel Treaty, Plastic Pollution Coalition, Remake, and many others. Her family’s Harlem brownstone eco-renovation has been featured on television (World’s Greenest Homes, Renovation Nation) and in publications such as Dwell and Gotham, with coverage on Dwell.com and Kohler.com.
Her accolades include the Acclaimed Collaborator Award from Women in Arts and Media, the MUSE "Made in NY" Award from the Mayor’s Office and NYWIFT, the Sarah Powell Huntington Leadership Award, the Voice of a Woman Award, the Pioneer in Filmmaking Award, and the Founders Award for Support. She has been invited to keynote and speak at The White House, the United Nations, Google, Cannes Lions, Milken Global Conference, Fortune Women’s Summit, Women’s Media Summit, The Wrap Summit, and numerous film festivals and events worldwide.
Beyond her artistic career, Alysia is a volunteer firefighter, foster mother, abortion escort, and singer with the Resistance Revival Chorus, embracing joy as an act of resistance. She serves on the SAG-AFTRA Blue Ribbon Sexual Harassment Committee, has been arrested for peaceful abortion rights activism, and writes a sex and pleasure column for FLOW magazine. She actively partners with organizations including Women’s Prison Association, A Second U, Bard Prison Initiative, Sanctuary Neighborhood, and This Is About Humanity.
Her award-winning short film Speed Grieving, which she created, produced, and starred in, premiered at the Hamptons International Film Festival, screened at numerous festivals globally, and is now used as a grief counseling tool at every Cancer Support Community center across the country.
