Joan Lynch is a highly decorated producer and senior media executive known for creating award-winning divisions in broadcast news, digital streaming, premium sports storytelling, and national journalism initiatives.
With nearly two decades of experience, Lynch has held top leadership positions at ABC News, Yahoo, ESPN, and WorkingNation, steering content organizations through industry shifts and shaping programming across broadcast, digital, long-form documentary, and live platforms.
At ESPN, Lynch was Vice President & Executive Producer of Content Development, managing a diverse range of documentary, live, and original programming. She led development on numerous series and specials, including 30 for 30, Sport Science, SportsNation, the World Series of Poker, and major live events. Her leadership sparked significant creative growth and national acclaim for ESPN’s long-form storytelling division. Projects launched during her tenure earned multiple Peabody Awards, Sports Emmy Awards, Gracie Awards, and international film festival honors. ESPN also received its first Primetime Emmy nomination during this time. Lynch was recognized as one of the Most Powerful Women in Cable for her pivotal role in launching and expanding 30 for 30, a franchise that transformed modern sports documentary filmmaking.
As Chief Content & Programming Officer at WorkingNation, Lynch established and directed a national journalism and film division that produced documentaries, digital content, magazine features, podcasts, live events, and written journalism centered on economic change and the future of work. She led an award-winning team of journalists, filmmakers, and social media experts, managing editorial strategy and national distribution on platforms including CNN, CNBC, PBS, NPR, ABC Owned Television Stations, Univision, and Fortune. Under her guidance, the organization won an Emmy Award. She was also the chief fundraiser, securing millions in foundation grants to back national content projects. Lynch gained recognition as a media expert on workforce transformation, presenting at the National Governors Association and other key forums, and was frequently quoted in The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, and other major outlets.
Earlier in her career, Lynch spent twelve years with ABC News covering major global breaking news, including a stint on the White House beat. During the early days of digital streaming, she joined Yahoo! to help launch the first live broadband financial news channel, then returned to ABC to develop and launch ABC News Now, the network’s 24-hour digital news service, overseeing its editorial direction and programming.
Lynch is the founder of Scéal Films, an independent production company through which she develops select documentary, book-to-screen, live-event, and animation projects, managing intellectual property and creative partnerships for premium distribution.
Currently, she serves as Communications Consultant for CV6 Therapeutics, an oncology biotech advancing a first-in-class investigational therapy in Phase 1a clinical trials aimed at improving the efficacy of a widely used chemotherapy regimen in global cancer care, with potential impact for millions worldwide. She leads corporate narrative and branding efforts for the company and its leadership.
A proud daughter of a U.S. Army Vietnam War helicopter pilot, Lynch served seven years on the board of the MVAT Foundation and has collaborated with USC’s Institute for Creative Technologies on virtual reality treatments for post-traumatic stress.
