Diego Simeone is an Argentine football manager and former midfielder.
Since December 2011, he has been the manager of Atlético de Madrid. Simeone is regarded as a legendary figure in Atlético de Madrid's history due to his accomplishments both as a player and as a coach.
Beginning his club career in 1987, Simeone played in Argentina, Italy, and Spain for clubs including Vélez Sarsfield, Pisa, Sevilla FC, Atlético de Madrid, Inter Milan, S.S. Lazio, and Racing Club de Avellaneda. He secured a domestic double with Atlético de Madrid in 1996, won the UEFA Cup with Inter Milan in 1998, and achieved another domestic double with S.S. Lazio in 2000, as well as the 1999 UEFA Super Cup.
Simeone earned over 100 caps for the Argentina national team, representing his country in the 1994, 1998, and 2002 FIFA World Cups, and in four Copa América tournaments, winning the title in 1991 and 1993. He also claimed the King Fahd Cup in 1992 and a silver medal at the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games.
As a manager, Simeone has led Argentine clubs Racing Club de Avellaneda, Estudiantes de La Plata, River Plate, San Lorenzo, and the Italian club Catania before taking charge of Atlético de Madrid in 2011. He won the Argentine Primera División with both Estudiantes and River Plate and has achieved his greatest managerial success at Atlético de Madrid, winning La Liga, the Copa del Rey, two UEFA Europa League titles, two UEFA Super Cups, and finishing twice as runner-up in the UEFA Champions League.
