Daníel Ágúst Haraldsson (born 26 August 1969) is an Icelandic solo artist and lead vocalist for the bands GusGus, Nýdönsk, and Esja.
Following five albums with Nýdönsk, he expanded into acting at the National and Municipal theaters, performing in productions such as West Side Story, Jesus Christ Superstar (as Pontius Pilate), and Stone Free. Filmmakers Arni and Kinski invited him to star in their short film Nautn, which led to Daníel co-founding GusGus with Kinski in 1995.
GusGus became Daníel's most commercially successful musical project, selling over 300,000 records and touring internationally.
In 2000, Daníel paused his work with GusGus to focus on his solo career, composing music for television, documentaries, and the Iceland Dance Company.
His debut solo album, Swallowed a Star, was released by One Little Indian in Europe in 2005 and North America in 2006.
Prior to his solo debut, Daníel played a significant role in Iceland's participation in the 2005 Venice Biennale, acting in, co-directing, and editing a film piece, as well as overseeing its soundtrack.
He later formed a musical side project called Esja with Krummi Björgvinsson, frontman of the heavy metal band Mínus, releasing a self-titled album in 2008.
Daníel returned to GusGus with albums including Forever (2007), 24/7 (2009), Arabian Horse (2011), and Mexico (2014), touring extensively across Europe, the US, and Latin America. He released his second solo album, The Drift, in 2011.
