American character actress Madlyn Rhue was a prolific television performer, appearing in sitcoms, soap operas, drama series, and films over nearly four decades. Her striking looks, natural red hair, and brown eyes caught the attention of TV producers, leading to guest roles on shows like Rawhide (1959), Cheyenne (1955), Star Trek (1966), Hawaii Five-O (1968), Charlie's Angels (1976), and Fantasy Island (1977). She also appeared in several films, including Operation Petticoat (1959), He Rides Tall (1964), Kenner (1968), and It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World (1963). Diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 1977, Rhue battled the illness for almost 25 years but remained active in television, starring in films and co-starring in series and soap operas such as Executive Suite (1976), Fame (1982), Days of Our Lives (1965), and had a recurring role on Murder, She Wrote (1984). By 1997, she was no longer able to work and spent her final years at the Motion Picture and Television Country Home in Woodland Hills, California. She died there from pneumonia and complications of multiple sclerosis at the age of 68 on December 16, 2003.
