Bill Block is an independent investor, producer, and financier based in Los Angeles, specializing in film, television, and e-commerce. He focuses on preserving the creative vitality of independent production on a commercial global scale, while delivering attractive, risk-mitigated returns to his partners.
Recently, Block produced Bad Moms, starring Mila Kunis and Christina Applegate, written and directed by Jon Lucas and Scott Moore, as well as Dirty Grandpa, featuring Robert DeNiro and Zac Efron, directed by Dan Mazer. His past projects include developing, financing, and producing David Ayer's Fury starring Brad Pitt; Rock the Kasbah, starring Bill Murray and Bruce Willis and directed by Barry Levinson; Neill Blomkamp’s District 9 and Elysium; and Oliver Stone’s W., starring Josh Brolin.
Throughout his career, Block has produced, financed, acquired, or distributed numerous theatrical feature films and collaborated with some of the most acclaimed filmmakers in the industry, including Peter Jackson, Oliver Stone, Steven Soderbergh, Jon Favreau, David Koepp, Darren Aronofsky, Christopher McQuarrie, and Woody Allen.
Previously, Block served as President of Artisan Entertainment, overseeing all divisions and executive producing or acquiring films such as The Blair Witch Project; The Buena Vista Social Club; Darren Aronofsky’s Pi and Requiem For A Dream; Steven Soderbergh’s The Limey; and The Ninth Gate, starring Johnny Depp and directed by Roman Polanski.
Before Artisan’s leveraged buyout, Block was a leading talent agent in the industry, serving as Head of West Coast Operations for International Creative Management from 1992 to 1997 and founding the Intertalent Agency in 1988.
He is also co-founder and chairman of Screenbid.com, the premier auction platform for certified authentic, screen-used Hollywood memorabilia and collectibles.
Block attended Columbia University and currently lives in Los Angeles with his wife, two sons, and daughter.
