John Amplas, a talented and personable actor known for his youthful appearance, was born on June 23, 1949, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He delivered a remarkable performance as a troubled teenager who believes he is a vampire in George Romero's acclaimed horror film "Martin." Amplas also appeared in several other Romero projects: portraying a Hispanic gang member, Zombie, and Biker in the classic "Dawn of the Dead" (for which he also served as casting director), a jester in the offbeat "Knightriders," a menacing zombie in the entertaining anthology "Creepshow," and a nerdy scientist in the dark "Day of the Dead." Though miscast, he gave a solid performance as an FBI agent in "Bloodeaters" and was chilling as a ruthless backwoods Satanist in "Midnight." He also delivered a strong portrayal of a weary blue-collar single man in the touching "No Pets," and more recently, he played a malevolent, avaricious priest in the unconventional "Daddy Cool." Beyond his limited filmography, Amplas has enjoyed a long and distinguished career in theater as both actor and director. He is a founding member and the Associate Artistic Director of the Pittsburgh Playhouse Repertory Company. John earned considerable praise for his role as Ricky Roma in an Axiom Theater production of David Mamet's "Glengarry Glen Ross." His stage credits include "American Buffalo," "The Lion in the Winter," "Breaker Morant," "On the Beach," "Colonel Bird," and "Morat/Sade." As a director, he has worked on productions such as "Hair," "Driving Miss Daisy," "The Threepenny Opera," "Quills," "The Prince," "Suburbia," and "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?". Additionally, John Amplas serves as an Associate Professor teaching acting at the Conservatory of Performing Arts at Point Park University.
