Alla Pugacheva, born Alla Borisovna Pugacheva on April 15, 1949, in Moscow, Russia, is a renowned singer and actress. Her father, Boris Mikhailovich Pugachev, managed a shoe factory in Taldom, Russia, while her mother, Zinaida Arkhipovna (née Odegova), was a homemaker. She has a younger brother named Evgeni Borisovich Pugachev.
At age five, Alla gave her first public performance at the Pillar Hall of the Palace of Unions in Moscow. Between 1956 and 1965, she studied piano and singing at Music School No. 31. In 1965, she made her radio debut with the song "Robot" on Moscow Radio. From 1965 to 1971, she pursued studies in singing and choir directing at the Moscow College of Music named after Ippolitov-Ivanov. Later, from 1976 to 1981, she studied acting and directing at the Moscow Institute of Theatrical Art (GITIS), graduating as a director.
Pugacheva made her film debut in 1977, starring in the lead role of "Zhenshchina, kotoraya poyot" (The Woman Who Sings) released in 1979. She also composed music for the film under the pseudonym "Boris Gorbonos." The movie was a major box-office success in the Soviet Union, attracting over 60 million viewers. In 1979, she was named the best actress in the USSR. By then, she was already an internationally acclaimed pop singer, having earned awards at festivals such as Sopot-78, MIDEM-1976, and Zolotoi Orfei-75. In 1997, she participated in the Eurovision Song Contest. Pugacheva has been a committed humanitarian, donating and performing charity concerts to support victims of the Chernobyl nuclear disaster.
Throughout her career, Pugacheva has performed and recorded more than 300 songs. Her international hit "Million Roses" was created in collaboration with Latvian composer Raimonds Pauls, with whom she has worked on numerous popular songs and concert programs. She has also collaborated with well-known artists like Joe Dassin, Udo Lindenberg, Philipp Kirkorov, Kristina Orbakaite, Vladimir Presnyakov, and others. She received the State Prize of Russia in 1995 and many other honors. In December 1991, she was named People's Artist of the USSR.
Alla Pugacheva is the undisputed leader in record sales in the USSR and Russia, with over 100 million albums and singles sold. She has helped many young singers and actors develop their careers. Currently, she serves as the Artistic Director and host of the TV show "Fabrika Zvezd" (Factory of Stars). Her daughter, Kristina Orbakaite, is a well-known singer and actress in Russia. Alla Pugacheva currently lives in Moscow, Russia.
