Andrea Sperling has produced over thirty feature films and seven television seasons, establishing herself as one of the most prolific producers of the last thirty years. She produced her first film at 21 and has nurtured the careers of acclaimed writers and directors including David Ayer, Gregg Araki, Nisha Ganatra, Jamie Babbit, Malik Vitthal, Angela Robinson, Ry Russo-Young, James Ponsoldt, and Drake Doremus.
In 2014, Sperling was inducted into the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) and made her television debut as Executive Producer of Joey Soloway's groundbreaking series Transparent, which earned 21 Emmy nominations, 8 Emmy wins, and 2 Golden Globes across five seasons.
Together with Soloway, Sperling co-founded Topple, a production company focused on amplifying underrepresented voices on screen. Under Topple's exclusive TV deal with Amazon, she Executive Produced Sarah Gubbins' I Love Dick, adapted from Chris Kraus' cult feminist novel, as well as Marja Lewis-Ryan's pilot College. As President of Production, Sperling managed a team of 12 and oversaw a development slate of 8-10 projects annually, including feature films in partnership with Searchlight, MakeReady, Lionsgate, Millennium, Universal, Blumhouse, Amazon, and Participant.
Before Topple, Sperling was Head of Production at Super Crispy Entertainment and co-founded Blaspheme with actress Christina Ricci, securing a first-look deal with Millennium. Throughout her career, she has collaborated with numerous notable actors such as Christian Bale, Mark Ruffalo, Michelle Williams, John Boyega, Natasha Lyonne, John Krasinski, Kevin Bacon, Felicity Jones, Whoopi Goldberg, Sharon Stone, Jessica Biel, Melanie Lynskey, Rebecca Hall, Clea DuVall, Kate Hudson, Casey Affleck, Peter Sarsgaard, Juliette Lewis, Kathryn Hahn, and Octavia Spencer. Most recently, Sperling completed production on FX’s limited sci-fi murder mystery series Retreat, created by Brit Marling and Zal Batmanglij (The OA), starring Clive Owen, Emma Corrin, and Harris Dickinson.
Sperling serves on the Board of Directors of Film Independent and has received two Spirit Award nominations for Producing Achievement. She has been a Television Academy member since 2015 and earned Career Achievement Awards from the San Francisco, Torino, Vienna, and Miami LGBTQ+ Film Festivals. In 2012, she received a Special Jury Prize for Outstanding Producing Achievement at Sundance—the only producer to ever receive this honor. Sperling has been featured twice on OUT Magazine’s OUT 100 list and profiled in The New York Times, The Village Voice, ArtForum, Paper Magazine, The Hollywood Reporter, Detour, The Advocate, IndieWire, Filmmaker Magazine, and Vanity Fair. She graduated with honors from UC Santa Barbara with a degree in Film Theory, History, and Criticism.
