Dakota Goyo was born in Toronto, Canada, to Debra Goyo, a former model and singer, and David Goyo. His siblings, Devon and Dallas Goyo, are also actors. He has Italian and Scottish roots.
Goyo appeared in his first commercial as a baby. His television debut occurred at age 5 in the CBS pilot "Ultra" (2006). His natural talent, emotional depth, and script memorization skills at a young age earned him numerous roles in television and animation. With prior acting experience, Goyo steadily secured principal and leading roles in both film and TV. He is most comfortable performing, showing confidence and maturity beyond his years.
His notable television credits include: Disney's JoJo's Circus (2003), Ultra (2006), Super Why! (1999), The Murdoch Mysteries (2008), The Listener (2008), My Neighbor's Secret (2009), Happy Town (2009), and a recurring role as Timmy Tibble on the children’s series Arthur (2009–). He also starred as Charlie in the ABC pilot Solving Charlie (2009), portraying an orphaned child with an IQ of 190 who assists his long-lost brother in solving crimes.
Goyo has an impressive filmography. His first lead role in a feature film was at age 6 as Teddy Kernan in Resurrecting the Champ (2007), earning rave reviews and a Young Artist Award nomination. At 7, he appeared alongside Susan Sarandon and Christopher Plummer in Emotional Arithmetic (2007). By age 9, he played Jack Carter in Defendor (2009) opposite Woody Harrelson.
Following a nationwide DreamWorks search in early 2010, at age 10, Goyo was cast as Max in Real Steel (2011), starring Hugh Jackman. Produced by Steven Spielberg and directed by Shawn Levy, the film earned him a Young Artist Award in 2012 and a Saturn Award nomination.
In September 2010, Goyo was cast as Young Thor in Marvel’s Thor (2011), acting opposite Anthony Hopkins, under Kenneth Branagh’s direction.
At 11, Goyo voiced Jamie in DreamWorks’ animated film Rise of the Guardians (2012), alongside Alec Baldwin, Jude Law, Hugh Jackman, Chris Pine, and Isla Fisher.
In 2011, he guest-starred in R.L. Stine's The Haunting Hour, earning an Emmy nomination by age 12.
By July 2012, Goyo traveled to Iceland to film Noah (2014), starring Russell Crowe, Emma Watson, Jennifer Connelly, and Anthony Hopkins, directed by Darren Aronofsky. He portrayed Young Noah.
By his 13th birthday, he was filming the lead role of Jesse in Dark Skies (2013), co-starring Keri Russell and directed by Scott Stewart.
In May 2013, Goyo filmed the lead role of Luke in Midnight Sun (2014) in the Canadian Arctic, telling the story of a boy trying to save a polar bear cub. Bridget Moynahan and Goran Visnjic also starred.
