Antonio was born in Sydney, Australia, but spent most of his early years in Europe. Since 1992, he has worked as a writer and director in the film industries of Europe, Australia, and North America. His debut film, "On My Own," which he co-wrote with Gill Dennis and directed, screened at Sundance in 1993 and earned six AFI nominations (Australia's equivalent of the Oscars) as well as one Genie nomination (Canada's Oscar equivalent). His films have been featured at festivals including Berlin, Sundance, San Sebastian, Rotterdam, and IDFA, and distributed by companies such as Miramax, Warner Bros., and Lionsgate. Shortly after 9/11, Antonio produced a series of documentaries for RAI (Italian TV), which led to an ongoing collaboration with UNTV (United Nations TV) to create documentaries highlighting underreported issues in South and Central America, Africa, and Asia. His work has been supported by the Independent Filmmaker Project (IFP), Tribeca Film Institute (TFI), Film Independent (FIND), and When East Meets West (WEMW). Antonio is currently a member of the Writers Guild of America, East, and is based in New York City.
