Deborah Ayorinde was born in London, England. At seven, she appeared in her first play at a drama school in Forest Gate, London, where she discovered her passion for the arts. At eight, her family moved to San Jose, California. There, she honed her skills by taking part in talent shows and contests, performing with dance and cheerleading teams, joining choirs, and undergoing continuous training. In May 2009, she graduated with honors from Howard University's John H. Johnson School of Communications, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Film Production. While at Howard, she received the Paul Robeson Best Actress award for a short film she wrote and directed, which also won Best Cinematography. Deborah made her professional stage debut in London at the Lyric Hammersmith, portraying Julia in Alice Childress’s play Wedding Band. Her film credits include Fatherhood (Netflix), Harriet (Universal), Girls Trip (Universal), and Barbershop: The Next Cut (MGM). Her television work features leading roles in Them (Amazon Prime Video) and Riches (ITV and Amazon Prime Video), as well as appearances in Luke Cage (Marvel/Netflix), Truth Be Told (Apple TV+), True Detective Season 3 (HBO), The Village (NBC), and The Affair (Showtime). She earned an Independent Spirit Award nomination for Best Female Performance in a New Scripted Series for Them Season 1 and a Stage Debut Award nomination for Best Performer for her role in Wedding Band.
